Goodwood - Greenpower 2024

Posted on: 29th Apr 2024

On the 21st April the SRW-A team took part in the 2024 Greenpower race day at the beautiful Goodwood race track. The 2023 team have been outstanding this year and have worked hard over the past year modifying the car and tuning the motor.

Stoba Engineering once again sponsored the team for the 2024 season and very generously provided funds to help run the club, develop a new scratch build and purchase supplies for the current car, They also provided the team with an abundance of snacks and treats for the race day which were very well received by both students and staff.

The weather for the day, although a little chilly, was perfect driving conditions with the sun making some welcomed appearances throughout the day. Over 120 cars were at the event with over 100 making it past the strict scrutineering checks and on to the track. The team were a credit to the academy, working together in the pits and ensuring the car ran smoothly.

This year Archie Gyford and William Swasbrick stepped up as team leaders and did an outstanding job organising the other students. The students took part in two races as well as a practice session completing a total distance of 56 miles. For the first time in recent years, the car ran really smoothly, with no major incidents or technical issues. The only real problem the team faced was the cold weather affecting battery performance - Something they are already working on rectifying by designing heated/ insulated battery storage.

As well as the driving, the Goodwood race day is a great opportunity to see what other schools and colleges have done with their cars, meeting the other teams and sharing ideas. The day was a complete success and a fantastic experience for both the students, teachers and the parents that came along. The team would like to take this opportunity to thank Stoba for their continued support throughout the 2024 season and helping make the scratch build car a reality. We are already planning the 2025 season and the team have lots of plans in place to take the cars to the next level.
