Travel to SRWA
There are good public transport links between SRWA, Lancing, Shoreham, and the surrounding areas.
We communicate regularly with our PTA, West Sussex County Council and the local public transport providers to ensure that services remain satisfactory, and improvements are made where necessary. Last year in addition to the public bus and train services we have also secured the services of A&A Travel to provide a private bus between Shoreham and the Academy (details below).
The Academy encourages walking and cycling to school wherever possible. There are plenty of bicycle racks in the Academy for the safe storage of bicycles or scooters during the day.
Where the distance from the Academy does not allow for walking or cycling to school, there are several transport options available, as detailed below;
The private coach service to and from Shoreham, is provided by the Academy and A&A Travel click here. This service operates daily, arriving at the Academy at 8.35am, and departing the Academy at 3.10pm. Due to the increase in the number of students from Shoreham, we need to ascertain who would like to reserve a place on the coach, and whether we need one coach or two. The current route is shown below, although this is subject to change depending on responses received:
Red Lion -- Upper Shoreham Road (Adur Road) -- Upper Shoreham Road (Buckingham Park) -- Stoney Lane -- Hammy Lane -- Southlands Hospital -- St Nicholas and Mary School -- A259 (High Street BY Ferry Bridge) -- Shoreham High Street (Bridge Inn) -- Longshore Pub -- Lancing Broadway -- SRWA
The cost of the private coach service will be £125 per term, per child, payable in advance.
Please note that the Academy subsidises this service by over £20,000 each year, and it is therefore not possible to offer any further discounts for siblings, vulnerable students, or students eligible for free school meals. If you believe that you are eligible for financial assistance towards transport costs then you should contact West Sussex County Council via their website: West Sussex Transport
Priority for places on the Academy coach/es will be given in the following order:
1. Vulnerable students including those with Special Educational Needs and Children Looked After
2. Siblings of other coach users
3. New Year 7 intake
4. Year 8 students
5. Year 9 students
6. KS4/KS5 students
7. Late applications
If you live in Shoreham and wish to reserve a place on the coach, please ensure you complete this form by Wednesday 12th May so that we may start making plans for school transport needs from September. Late applications for the private coach service may not be considered until all available spaces are filled.
The public school bus service, route 19A, is run by Compass Travel. There are many stops on the route, which goes from Shoreham, via South Lancing and Central Lancing, to SRWA. The bus stops directly outside the Academy. Details of the timetable can be found here. A termly bus pass is available, details of which can be found at https://www.compass-travel.co.uk/product/19a-sir-robert-woodard-pass/.
There is a regular train service linking Shoreham and Lancing and Worthing. Details can be found on the National Rail website here. It is a 15 minute walk to SRWA from the train station or alternatively Stagecoach run a public bus service from Lancing Train Station to the Sir Robert Woodard Academy, stopping in Cokeham Road which is a short 3 minute walk to the Academy.
Reminder of the current key guidance for safe rail travel:
· Wear a face covering - this is a legal requirement if you are 11 and over (unless you are exempt)
· Please keep your distance from other passengers
· Carry hand sanitiser and wash your hands before and after travelling
· Travel at quieter times if at all possible
For tickets, students and their parents may want to consider getting our Key Smartcard to make it easier and faster to buy or renew tickets, and to minimise contact. More details on how to get a card, including a child Key Smartcard, can be found on the relevant website:
There is a bus from Lancing Train Station to Cokeham Road, by the Academy, every 10 minutes. Details of ‘The Pulse’ service can be found on the Stagecoach website https://www.stagecoachbus.com.
If you wish to drive your child to school, please use the overflow car park, which is next to Boundstone Nursery. Please ensure that you do not park on the area of yellow ‘Keep Clear’ markers just outside the Academy gates, as this is used as a crossing area for students.
