BackIceland Geography Trip 2026
Posted on: 5th Mar 2026Our recent expedition to Iceland was a spectacular success, offering our students a true "Water, Fire, and Ice" experience that brought their geography studies to life.
Throughout the journey—from the thundering cascades of Gullfoss and Skógafoss to the glacial expanse of Sólheimajökull—our students were exemplary ambassadors for the school, earning high praise from our guides for their focus and curiosity. A particular highlight was seeing our Year 8s take the lead at Dyrhólaey and Gullfoss; they delivered impressive "on-site" lessons to their peers, expertly applying classroom concepts of hydraulic action and abrasion to explain the formation of coastal arches and waterfalls.
Our Year 9, 10, and 11 students were equally impressive, sharing their sophisticated knowledge of constructive plate boundaries and volcanic systems during our visit to the Lava Show and the tectonic rifts of Þingvellir. Whether we were exploring the snowy landscapes made famous by Game of Thrones, walking behind the veil of Seljalandsfoss, or enjoying the geothermal warmth of the Secret Lagoon, the students' engagement was incredible.
From the dramatic south coast to the vibrant streets of Reykjavík, it was a privilege to see them connect so deeply with the natural world.
