Posted on: 11th May 2026

Sports template (Instagram Post (45)) (3)In May 2026, to run in paralell to the real world Local Elections happening in the UK, we held a mock election at SRWA. The buzz in the academy was incredible as students experienced the democratic process in microcosm and voted for their favourite candidates.

Greens won by a majority of 73, Reform were second with 129 votes. Labour and Lib Dem 37 and 32 respectively and the Independent candidate received 18 votes.

The aim of this exercise however was not so much about the result but for students to experience democracy in action and political engagement across the school. A third of our students queued to vote at lunchtime, collecting their ballot cards and voting in polling booths.

W6 politics students were allocated political parties to represent. They chatted with students, wore their party rosettes and promoted what they would do to improve Lancing. Their manifestos were based on local concerns identified by students who completed surveys last week.

Special thanks to our Year 10 student leaders and W6 students who played a key role in managing the election and counting the votes afterwards.
