Entry Requirements
Every sixth-form college has entry requirements for each of its courses, which ensure that you are well prepared for the demands of the subjects you want to study. The exact grades you need will depend on the level and nature of the courses you are applying for.
The basic requirement for admission to year 12 is:
- A level: 5 or more GCSEs at grade 4+ (or merit at BTEC level 2), usually including English (Language or Literature) and Maths.
- Level 3 Vocational: 4 or more GCSEs at grade 4+ (or merit at BTEC level 2), usually including English (Language or Literature) and Maths.
Students who do not have both Maths and English GCSE, but meet other requirements for their courses will have to retake Maths or English.
In addition, subjects have their own requirements as listed below.

| Geography | 4 in Geography (if taken), 4 in Science and 4 in English Language |
| History | 4 in History (if taken), 4 in English Language; |
| Maths | 6 in Maths and 4 in English |
| Maths: Further Maths | 7 in Maths. Must be taken with A-level Maths. |
| Philosophy, Religion and Ethics | 5 in English (Language or Literature) |
| Photography | Grade 4 in art or Merit in a Level 2 Design course, or a portfolio |
| Physics | 6-6 in double award Science or 6 in Physics plus 6 in another science. 4 in English Language, 5 in Maths |
| Physical Education | 5 in GCSE PE, 4 in English Language, 4 in science. At least one sport played to a high club level or County level. |
| Politics | 4 in GCSE English plus 4 in a humanities subject (e.g. History,Geography, RS) |
| Psychology | 4 in GCSE English Language or Literature and 5 in Maths and 4 in a science |
| Sociology | 4 in English and maths. |
Level 3 Vocational Courses | Additional Level 2 requirements |
| 3D Design BTEC | Merit in 3D Design or grade 4 Art or (in exceptional circumstances) evidence of skill in designing and making |
| Dance RSL | 5 in Dance or additional dance experience out of school |
| Drama RSL | 5 in English Literature or a successful audition. |
| Information Technology Cambridge Technical | 4 in maths and English |
| Digital Media (RSL) | 4 in English Language |
| Music (RSL) | Grade 5 GCSE Music, Grade 5 in instrument/voice exam or an audition |
| Sport BTEC | 4 in English Language or Literature and 4 in Maths, 4 in GCSE PE or Sport BTEC M2. |
We are able to offer all of these subjects. However, If there is insufficient interest in a subject the course will not run. We will let students know as soon as any decision is made and help them to choose suitable alternatives.
