Junior Band

The Junior Band was established in 2002 to give young people in Lancing, Sompting and the surrounding areas the opportunity to learn a musical instrument within a band environment.

It is open to all students from year 4-6 in the local area and for students in year 7+ who attend The Sir Robert Woodard Academy. Students do not need to know how to read music or how to play an instrument to join the band, everything is taught through either a full band setting or smaller group sessions. Our experienced tutors work with the students within the band setting to help develop musical understanding and playing technique, as well as giving short individual and paired tutoring.

Students have the opportunity to learn flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass guitar, percussion and drums, with smaller beginner sessions as well as full band rehearsals. We have a number of instruments available to hire from the academy so students can practice their instruments at home. Students also have the chance to take part in the Junior Band Choir or Ukulele Group (also running on a Saturday), allowing them to put their musical learning and skills into practice in a different setting.

The band runs every Saturday morning during term time from 9.30am-12.30pm at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy. For further details contact Ms Fauvel at the Academy by telephone 01903 767434 or email lfauvel@srwa.woodard.co.uk
