School Closure Procedures - Parents

Information for Parents

Timetable

It is expected that students are working on activities set by their teachers during the day. We will follow the same timetable a student would follow in school.

You can find your child's timetable in Arbor (our Arbor help page is here) as well as in their Google calendar (a student must be signed into their own school email account to access this.)

Account Details

To make it easy to access, all resources will use your child's school email address and password.

It is in the following format:

firstname.lastname@srwa.co.uk

Their password is the password they use to login to the school computers.

Learning Activities

Year 7 - 10

Students will use Google Classroom. We normally use Show My Homework, but in these exceptional circumstances, we are choosing to use a system that allows students to receive work, as well as interact with their class teacher and also submit work for review and feedback.

As a parent you may receive a daily digest about your child's work, including upcoming deadlines, missing work, announcements about assignments, messages and questions posted by teachers.

You can choose the frequency of the emails, such as daily or weekly. You can unsubscribe or remove yourself from Classroom at any time.

Google Classroom works on a computer, laptop, tablet and a phone. The app will also allow students to upload work on paper by taking photos of their work.

To reduce screen time during the day, we would encourage students to take appropriate breaks away from a screen.

Google Classroom Apps can be downloaded from Android Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Help videos for students will be located on our page dedicated to using Google Classroom.

Year 11

Teachers will post work to Google Classroom. Work will be set to match a student's normal timetable at school.

Please use these links to download the Google Classroom app to your own device.

Live Lessons

Teachers will do their best to begin each timetabled lesson with a video conference. Students can check which conferences they have been invited to by visiting meet.google.com and logging in with their school email address and password.

It is expected that students mute their microphones and cameras for live lessons, and only use the chat function to ask questions. Usual expectations of behaviour and etiquette apply.

Year 12 - 13

Lesson resources will be available on Canvas to match a student's timetable.

Live Lessons

Teachers will do their best to begin each timetabled lesson with a video conference. Students can check which conferences they have been invited to by visiting meet.google.com and logging in with their school email address and password.

Computer Equipment

We realise that you may have a number of children at home during these exceptional times, and therefore access to a device may be difficult.

We would ask that older students take priority so that they can participate in any live lessons. Younger students may submit their work through Google Classroom at another time during the time that does not clash.

Google Classroom and Meets are both available for mobile phones and tablets.

Where a student has no access to IT equipment, we would encourage you to use your own mobile device to get information about the tasks set and pass these on to your children.

Please let your chapter team know if your child is having trouble completing work due to not having access to IT equipment.
