National Theatre Connections - The Ramayana Reset

Posted on: 13th May 2022

By Ms Venn

It was such a privilege to take part in National Theatre Connections this year and to get to perform the beautifully written The Ramayana Reset. Connections is the National Theatre's annual, nationwide youth theatre festival which champions the talent of young people from across the UK. Every year, they commission ten new plays for young people to perform. This wonderful play leads the audience on the personal journey of Zara, who is discovering who she is and why it is important to stand up for what you believe.

We were so lucky to be asked to perform at the Mast Studio theatres Southampton and what an amazing experience it was. Unbeknown to us the writer, Ayeesha Menon, would join us that evening to watch. At the end of our performance she gave us a standing ovation and personally congratulated our students. She was enormously proud of the way we had staged and acted her work and absolutely loved what we had done, giving justice to her piece.

She loved the humour, dance, characters and celebration that we had brought out of the work and said that she was so impressed with the students that she believed she would see some of them in the west end one day as they are so talented.

It was truly such a special evening and one that students will remember forever!
