Iceland Trip 2024

Posted on: 26th Feb 2024

In the February half term 30 Geography students from years 9-11 visited Iceland, the land of fire and Ice.

Students visited several geothermal areas, where they were able to see geysers erupt out of the ground and hike around an impressive hot spring environment.

For many, a highlight were the impressive waterfalls we were able to visit, where students appreciated the beauty of Iceland’s physical landscape. This included the spectacular Seljalandsfoss, alongside its more secret hidden waterfall and Gullfoss, where we really experienced the extreme weather due to very high winds.

Other fantastic experiences included climbing down into the lava tunnels, visiting a geothermal energy power plant, the lava show where we saw basaltic lava cool and solidify, and exploring the beautiful city of Reykjavik. Some students also experienced an interactive attraction, The Flyover Iceland which was fantastic.

The temperature average was zero degrees throughout the trip, students adapted really well to this. They also represented the Academy brilliantly throughout the trip and have made fantastic memories!
