We know that moving to a new school can be a daunting experience for students (and parents!) but we make sure that the process is as smooth, supportive and as fun as can be for any child coming to The Sir Robert Woodard Academy.

We work hard to make sure our new Year 7 students start school here feeling as comfortable as possible at this time of change. Our transition evenings allow students and their parents to meet with the Chapter team and mentors, to sample the food, have a look around and an opportunity to ask questions about the Academy. This is followed by a transition day filled with exciting and interactive activities for the year 6 students.

To further aid the transition process, year 6 students are buddied with SRWA students who went to the same primary school. These Buddy Mentors work with the students throughout the transition process as they prepare for secondary school. This includes our students visiting primary schools to meet with our new, incoming students.

Throughout the year there are countless sporting activities with primary schools to build familiarity with our staff and students. The events include football for boys and girls, netball, athletics and our annual “Fundays”. We also run hands-on specialism days for year 5 and 6 where students can visit us for the day and take part in Performing Arts, Sport or STEM sessions.

We offer guided tours in October where families can come in and see us in action during a normal school day. You can look around at our facilites and see what lessons and learning look like at the Academy.

We hope that these activities all help to make students feel more comfortable with the transition from year 6 to year 7 and to calm any fears that they may have about coming to “big school”.

The admissions process itself is explained in a West Sussex booklet which is freely available from local primary schools. The West Sussex County Council website also provides full details regarding the admissions procedures. The admissions and over-subscription criteria follow the WSCC agreed protocols and procedures.
