Ricardo Sixth Form Project

Posted on: 23rd Jan 2023

Six Year 12 students have started an 8 month project with Ricardo, the global engineering consultancy based by Shoreham Airport. They will work with graduates and senior engineers from Ricardo.

The students have been asked to design and build a rig to create high quality photographs of the marks on pistons from diesel and petrol engines. These photos can be used by Ricardo engineers to analyse the efficiency of the engines.

This project will give the students real-life experience of an engineering design project. The team will research the potential solutions to Ricardo's customer requirements. Then they design and build a prototype. They will see how well it works and then improve on it.

The project will provide the students with an Extended Project Qualification. This will give them additional credits for their university applications. It will also provide experience for those pursuing engineering or science degrees.

Many team members from previous projects have gone on to study engineering, maths, computer science and science degrees.
