Ricardo Project Presentation

Posted on: 6th Jul 2023

Congrats to the team of six year 12 students who presented their project at the Ricardo Centenary Centre to an audience of their Parents and Ricardo engineers last week. Ricardo is a world-leading engine design consultancy based by Shoreham airport who work with many of the world's leading car manufacturers.

The team were: Rui Silverthorne, George Grant, Jahin Rahman, Ellis Nealfuller, Kie Kwong, Alex Stewart.

They have been working with Ricardo for 8 months on the creation of a rig to take high quality pictures of engine pistons. These photos show the combustion deposits left in engines. They will be used to improve the efficiency of petrol and diesel engines.

The 6th Formers have learnt about the engineering design process through the project. They completed a concept study, selected the best option, then built a first prototype, and then improved its operation in a second prototype. This project will help the team members obtain university places as their work will be submitted for Extended Project Qualifications that will provide them with additional UCAS points.

After the presentation, our students confidently answered questions from the Ricardo engineers. Ricardo senior specialist engineer Dave Lee and his team were impressed by the high quality of the prototype and the professional presentation given by the team.

Well done all!
