Ski Trip 2016
After months of planning, the first ever SRWA ski trip got under way during the spring half term holiday. Spirits were high as the group set off on the 15 hour journey across Europe to our destination of Lofer Unken in Austria.
As the group were all complete beginners, the first morning proved to be an entertaining affair as students learnt to move, fall and get up with skis attached to their feet. By the afternoon of the first day all students were up the mountain and attacking the nursery slopes with confidence. It soon became clear that there were some speed demons and they provided some spectacular falls, much to the hilarity of the rest of the group.
The students progressed day by day with some naturals standing out from the start. There were several awards given out every day including; the ‘airborne legend’ and ‘most improved’ and the not so glamourous ‘pants’ award for students who may have spent more time on their bottoms than on their skis. As with all trips, the week flew by and the trip ended with a ski race where students (and teachers) had to follow a course down and race against the clock. This was also Fancy Dress Day with a lot of students opting to race in their fancy dress onesies, including Thor and super woman. This was a great event with students showing their competitive sides as well as the excellent carving skills they had learnt over the week.
Roll on the SRWA 2017 ski trip!
