Year 8 Making Choices trip to Sussex University

Last week two groups of year 8 students spent a day at the University of Sussex as part of the Making Choices programme- designed to promote the idea of University study from an young age.

The group of STEM students spent a day working with their racing team and learning about wind tunnels. The Arts & Humanities group spent the day working with Business academics looking at different types of business before completing an apprentice style task in the afternoon.

  • Making Choices is a programme for Year 8 students that explores academic subjects.
  • Its aim is to support students as they make their GCSE and future choices.
  • Support and inform students in their GCSE choices
  • Introduce learners to new subjects, topics and ways of learning
  • Build confidence and encourage a sense of belonging within a university environment
  • Grow knowledge around professional pathways and the value of qualifications
  • There are two strands Arts & Humanities and STEM, 20 students in each group
  • Students will attend three academic sessions, a campus tour and a graduation

Our Year 8s are gaining lots of valuable experience from taking part in the programme and we are looking forward to what the next sessions will bring.
