Year 11 Aspire to Achieve Day

We are proud of the careers provision at SRWA, in particular our links with the local business community. Over the year we have been able to invite business people in to speak with our students quite frequently.

On Friday 7th December we hosted an Aspire to Achieve day for all year 11s. They received their mock results the night before and then had a day of organisation, motivation and inspiration. There were inspirational talks and practical advice on how to get organised and prepared for exams.

In the afternoon, over 30 business people joined us to speak to students about their own career pathways, in addition to the skills they look for in employees. Students had the chance to speak in depth to the business people about their own interests and aspirations.

We were fortunate to have a wide range of businesses in different industries come along for the day. Students were able to choose employers that interested them and have a chat about jobs and careers in HR, finance, banking, film, training, international trade, printing, furniture and interior design, construction, entrepreneur, engineering, medical devices, software, accountancy, legal and printing - to name but a few. Even the headteacher from Seaside primary popped in to chat to students about his own career.

We had some former students who had made it big in the business world and were happy to come back and share their story and experiences.

We were also pleased to be able to welcome students from St Andrews to share in this amazing day, and also speak with our visiting businesses.

The feedback from students and business people was excellent:

“It was great. I only wished it was even longer.”
“I loved talking to the business people.”
"‘The careers chats were incredibly useful. They made me take a deep insight into my career path. Thank you!’”
"‘Meeting people from business was most useful and most helpful.’”
“Overall amazing, super helpful and hope we can do this again".
"Hi Mark, just a quick note to say how rewarding i found today. Hopefully the students are feeling the same! Speak soon and have a great weekend. Thanks.”Jon Rush ACMA Consultant at HR Smart Ltd.

The whole day was such a success we are already planning ahead to make next year's event even bigger and better.
