Parents go back to school for lesson in maths

Some brave parents went back to school this week to join their children in learning maths.

Four different groups of Year 7 parents over two weeks were invited to join a class to sit with their child and take part in mathematical games and activities similar to those experienced in a normal lesson.

Traditionally one of the less popular and for some even ‘scary’ subject areas the mention of maths might still bring some parents out in a cold sweat. The aim of the sessions was to dispel common myths surrounding maths, encourage positive attitude around the subject and to show parents how they can engage with maths with their child.

The parents went away knowing more about how we teach maths at SRWA with new ways to support their child at home and with a better understanding of our expectations around homework.

The feedback has been very positive and we hope to offer similar sessions in the future.
