Duke Of Edinburgh Bronze expedition

A huge well done to the bronze Duke of Edinburgh students, who successfully completed the expedition part of their DofE programme.

On the practice at Truleigh Hill they were truly exceptional considering the brutal conditions of the day. Each group walked at least 20km, up an incredibly steep incline and most importantly made it back in time for the England quarter final.

Aiden Howard packed most of his bedroom and carried it in his dad’s old army rucksack without a single complaint, showing real grit and determination. Vinnie Orford, Arman Youssef and Cameron Skinner helped make a great team with perfect navigation and terrifying stories of Scottish Janet and Arman’s hair care routine.

The girls group were equally brilliant, with Emma Shuttleworth and Freya Pain carrying exceptionally heavy bags without complaint with some great leadership from Beth Ayling on show. Rosie Griffiths, Ella Kwong, Amelia Walker and Billie O’Loughlin wrote a wonderful song whilst also dealing with the difficult conditions with a smile always on their faces.

This excellent practice continued into the assessed expedition at Gumber Bothy with the welcome addition of Brad McCann and Connor Godley, and even though Bradley’s team got three hours lost they got back to camp safely without moaning or complaining, showing the ASPIRE attributes in the flesh.

Connor’s training in the sea scouts showed as his expertise was a welcome addition to the group, as was his friendly, wonderful attitude.

All in all their parents should be very impressed!
