3G pitch launch with Albion stars Glenn and Ini!

Tuesday 2nd May was the long awaited launch event for our amazing 3G pitch funded by Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club.

Albion top scorer Glenn Murray, Ini Umotong from the Women’s team and Executive Director Martin Perry came along from their nearby training ground in Lancing to cut the red ribbon and see the 3G pitch in all its glory. They were welcomed by a group of SRWA ‘superfans’- (some of whom were students, some teachers!)- and 60 star struck primary school pupils and their parents. Glenn and Ino both commented on how lucky our students were to have such a high tech surface to play sport on- Glenn said he used to play on dried mud when he was a kid!

There was much press interest in the event as it was only a couple of days away from the team’s big fixture against Manchester United…which they went on to win! Cameras from Sky sports, ITV and the BBC were there as well as Talk Sport, the Herald and the Argus, giving the event an even greater air of excitement.

Six local primary schools took part in a football tournament (congrats due to North Lancing Primary who were the winners!) and everyone was amazed at the quality of our new sports facility, which will soon also be available for community use.

Even the rain paused for a day and the sun shone. It was a memorable day for the academy and a fantastic way to launch our new 3G pitch.
