World Book Day 2018

The LRC (Learning Resource Centre) and the English department are delighted to announce a range of events planned to celebrate World Book Day, which happens this year on Thursday 1st March.

On the day itself, we invite all students and staff to dress as a favourite book character for a donatio of £2.

Each student will receive a £1 World Book Day voucher entitling them to £1 off any book bought from local and national bookshops; there will also be a limited number of £1 books available for sale in the LRC on World Book Day, 1 March.

Year 7 students will be treated to a storytelling performance in the theatre in the morning; Jamie Crawford, storyteller in residence at the British Museum will be telling tales to make their hair stand on end! He is one of our favourite visitors and this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy traditional stories told with amazing sound effects.

Year 8 students will be meeting acclaimed author Eve Ainsworth on Wednesday 7 March in the afternoon. Eve writes for young adults; her characters deal with the pressures that today’s teens face every day and Eve will talk about her characters and storylines as well as the help and support that is available to anyone troubled by any of the issues discussed.

There will be a literature quiz running in the LRC for the whole of March – chocolate prizes on offer, and an inter-chapter creative writing competition. We are asking each tutor group to display bunting in their tutor base featuring their favourite books of all time.

The LRC will be hosting the voting and award presentation of the 6-Up Book Award where year 6 pupils from our feeder primary schools have been reading a shortlist of three books alongside some of our year 7 and 8 students, this is an exciting culmination to a term of reading and discussions.

We are very much looking forward to this celebration of books and literature.
