Performing Arts

“We live, learn and work in a world that is connected in so many ways and yet has so many different parts to it. We believe that we must all understand the connections and the differences so that we can all thrive within it and make a difference to it.

At the centre of our work is the desire to create a curriculum and programme of events that embraces the needs of individuals; encourages collaborative work through the arts and contributes to our understanding of our community and the world beyond it. ”

Our Performing Arts department incorporates a number of different specialities within the curriculum, including Dance, Drama and Music, but also includes many extra curricular activities.  Some of these activities are purely for our students, but we also have several bands for the community.

Our Performing Arts specialism provides courses and enrichment opportunities that develop skills and confidence.  The Performing Arts are a fundamental part of the Academy’s heritage.  Sompting and Lancing have a long and strong tradition of performance and that is firmly embedded within the Academy’s culture.

The skills acquired – confidence, movement, oracy, self-esteem, creativity, teamwork, determination, perseverance – are all recognised as 21st century life skills that are readily transferred to the world of work.  Through our taught curriculum and the numerous extra-curricular opportunities, particularly within music, we are able to provide for every student and give them the opportunities to learn new skills, develop as individuals and to celebrate their successes.

  • Outstanding teaching across all of the art forms
  • Brand new state-of-the-art facilities
  • The first specialist school in West Sussex from 2002
  • Local, Regional, National and International performance work
  • A modern curriculum, meeting the needs of young people
