In the Community

The Community Band

The Community Band was formed in 2003 and has grown steadily since then.  They have built up a good local reputation for performing and are a familiar sight at venues across Sussex.  They have also created good links with local charities including Mencap, Parley and We Play Too!

In October 2008 the Community Band joined the Sompting Village Morris in Le Pays des Olonnes, France to celebrate the 10th anniversary of twinning with Worthing.

The Community Band epitomises lifelong learning with a wide spectrum of ages involved.  They offer adult instrumentalists an opportunity to play in a friendly and supportive group, share their love of music and have fun.

Junior Band

The Junior Band was established in 2002 to give young people in Lancing and Sompting the opportunity to learn a musical instrument within a band environment.  It is open to all students from year 4-6 in the local area, and for students in year 7+ who attend The Sir Robert Woodard Academy.

Students have the opportunity to learn flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass guitar, percussion and drums, with smaller beginner sessions as well as full band rehearsals.  They also have the chance to take part in the Junior Band Choir or Ukulele Group (also running on a Saturday), allowing them to put their musical learning and skills into practice in a different setting.

The band runs every Saturday morning during term time from 9.30am-12.30pm at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy.  For further details contact Ms Fauvel at the Academy by telephone 01903 767434 or email
