What will I study

You will study 4 units throughout the 2 year course. These include:

Anatomy and Physiology (externally assessed).

Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Exercise and Well Being (externally assessed).

Professional Development in the Sports Industry (Internally assessed).

Practical Sports Performance

How will I be assessed?

Unit 1 is a 1.5 hour exam which covers the body systems, structure, function, and the factors affecting them. Short and long term effects of exercise on each system.

Unit 2 is a 2.5 hour supervised written task, set and marked by the exam board.

The two other units are internally assessed coursework units which are divided into smaller, individual assignments.

Is this subject for me?

Students must have a keen interest in sport, fitness, and nutrition. You will most likely participate in sports outside of the sixth form and show a keen interest in a wide range of physical activities. We have a fitness suite available to enhance learning and fitness. The course looks at how the human body is structured and how it works during sport, as well as how we train in order to improve our health, lifestyle, and sporting performance.

In addition students will study 2 sports - 1 team and 1 individual, and look at their rules, organisation, tactics and skills. As well as looking at how sport has developed and changed over time.

Where can this lead me?

Students studying a sports qualification can progress onto further study at university or move into employment. These include

  • Exercise Physiology
  • Sports Science
  • Fitness Management
  • PE Teacher
  • Sports Administrator
  • Personal Trainer
