Macbeth actors visit year 10

Posted on: 7th Jun 2021

Year 10 English students were treated today to a workshop and Q&A with two actors, Edward Bennet and Phoebe Hyder, from Chichester Festival Theatre.

They visited SRWA to talk to Year 10 about their GCSE Shakespeare text, Macbeth, which Edward himself had recently performed in alongside Chris Eccelston at the Royal Shakespeare Company, in the role of Macduff.

Phoebe got the students involved in some physical theatre showing how emotion in a play can be conveyed through movement. During the Q&A, Edward talked about how although students today can feel that Shakespeare isn't relevant to them, it is worth the effort to understand its meaning and that we can all relate to the common themes of love and loss in Macbeth.

The take-home message from both actors was that to really appreciate Shakespeare, you should see it performed as was intended - in a theatre!
